With the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) releasing new generation coins, official from the Bacolod City BSP office explained why flora are being highlighted on the new coinage.

“This is in order to align with the theme of our paper bills, which feature Philippine fauna,” explained to BSP-Bacolod Bank Officer II Dori Mae Valezuela.

Flowers such as kapa-kapa, tayabak, waling-waling, katmon, kapal-kapal baging, and mangkono are all featured on the new generation coins.

Valenzuela also noted, the designs, features, and other specifications of the news coins have undergone extensive studies by the BSP Numismatic Committee and Currency Management Committee./WDJ
