Former Olympian dies in Bago City motorcycle accident

Operator was drunk, not wearing a helmet –report

Leopoldo Baylon Cantancio, Jr., who represented the Philippines in boxing at the 1984 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles and the 1988 Summer Olympic Games in Seoul, died last Friday in a motorcycle accident at Purok Narra in Barangay Malingin, Bago City.

According to reports, the former boxer overshot the left lane struck a concrete post.

In addition, Cantancio was found to be under the influence of alcohol and not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

He was rushed to Bago City Hospital but was declared dead-on-arrival by Dr. Arianne Gayle Togonon./JSG, WDJ
