Former Negros Occidental Governor Rafael Coscolluela, who currently serves as a provincial consultant, yesterday said both Negros Occidental third district Rep. Alfredo Benitez and incumbent Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson are “qualified” to serve as governor.
Coscolluela said the vice governor has a “good track record” as former San Carlos City mayor and as vice governor, noting the experience has prepared him for the governorship. He went on to describe Benitez as showing a “kind of attitude of being progressive-minded,” calling him a “visionary.”
He said it would be tough decision if both were to run.
“In terms of preparation, the vice governor would have the advantage,” Coscolluela asserted.
He, however, did not indicate a personal preference.
“If I will endorse a specific candidate for a position it will be because I believe they are the best for the position,” the former government official stated. “I might end up endorsing local and national candidates based on my personal criteria.”
As for himself, Coscolluela said he has “no more political plans and just wants to retire from politics.”/DGB, WDJ
