According to a Department of Health-Region VII (DOH-7) report, based on data gathered between January and April 14 of this year, Negros Oriental recorded the highest number of measles cases in the region.

The report found Dumaguete City reported the highest number of cases with 29, followed by Bacong with 15 and Sibulan with 11.

Last month, the Negros Oriental DOH declared a measles outbreak in Negros Oriental.

Among the towns and cities affected by the outbreak included Bacong, Dumaguete City, Mabinay, San Jose, Santa Catalina, Siaton, and Valencia.

Kabankalan City Mayor Isidro Zayco later declared an outbreak in the city after three local patients tested positive for measles.

Earlier this month, Kabankalan City Councilor Jeanna Cordova confirmed their City Health Office continues to provide measles vaccination as health officials believe the cases may have been sparked by children who were not immunized or whose immunizations were “incomplete.”/WDJ
