A total of 180 Barangay Councils for the Protection of Children (BCPC), representing all of Iloilo City’s barangays, underwent training throughout April, with the last session taking place today at the Iloilo Grand Hotel.

The event, conducted by the Iloilo City Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), through the Liga ng mga Barangay, in partnership with the Iloilo City government, the Iloilo City Council for the Protection of Children, the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), the Iloilo City Police Office-Women and Children’s Protection Desk, and World Vision, sought to improve BCPCs in addressing the needs of children in conflict with the law and children at risk, along with full implementation of maximum utilization of budgets for children’s programs, projects, and activities.

“[BCPCs] are the ones responsible in responding to the needs of the children in their area,” explained CSWDO focal person for youth Merlyn Gison. “They must promote and protect their welfare.”/WDJ
