The National Privacy Commission, created by RA 10173, or the Data Privacy Act of 2012, recently opened an investigation on Facebook, following congressional testimony by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on data gathering conducted through the popular social media platform.
The commission sent a formal letter to the Facebook CEO requesting a number of documents in order to determine the total impact on users in the Philippines.
It was earlier revealed, data analytics firm Cambridge Analytica managed to access data from millions of Facebook users, through an application on the social media platform.
While testifying before the United States Senate, Zuckerberg insisted his company is committed to safeguarding privacy.
“We have a responsibility to not just build tools, but to make sure that they are used for good,” he stressed. “It will take some time to work through all the changes we need to make across the company.”
The CEO also earlier issued an apology to Facebook users./WDJ
