Following the recent Regional Scientific Meeting, which took place in Bacolod City, the Department of Science and Technology-Region (DOST-6) said they anticipate better research and development output.

“What we expect is, after this event and series of events that we are going to have, we can now actually [have] better research and development output at the local level,” said DOST-6 Director Rowen Gelonga. “We are linking with our scientists and researchers based [in] areas outside the region.”

She said the meeting offered an opportunity for “local researchers to interact with national scientists and academicians to establish better collaboration.”

Gelonga added, they are looking at local school to establish niche centers in the region, as part of a DOST research and development program.

“We are looking [to] partner with both Carlos Hilado Memorial State College and [the] Technological University of the Philippines –Visayas to come up with a research center that will specialize [in] the metal working side, metals fabrication,” she explained./WDJ
