Two individuals drowned in the Lupa River over the weekend during a family outing in Barangay Kapitan Ramon, Silay City.

Police identified the fatalities as Reynaldo Oredina, a resident of Barangay Damgo in EB Magalona; and his in-law Georgina Pisantes, a resident of Barangay E. Lizares in Silay City.

Silay City police chief, Police Superintendent Noel Polines, said around 3:00 p.m., the Oredina and Pisantes families gathered along the Lupa River, where the victims went for a swim.

The victims reportedly swam into an area with a strong current, sweeping the two away.

Rescuers managed to recover the victims and rushed them to the Teresita Jalandoni Provincial Hospital, where they were both declared dead on arrival by hospital staff./DGB, WDJ
