In response to President Rodrigo Duterte accepting the resignation of Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre earlier this week, Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI) President Frank Carbon called it “positive.”

Following the recent dismissal of criminal charges against high-profile criminals, especially those involved in illegal drugs, Carbon said it created doubt among both local businessmen and international firms intending to set up shop in the Philippines.

He said the president’s decision shows he is “serious” in creating change, adding the decision kept the local business community hopeful about the Duterte administration.

Earlier on Thursday, Duterte accepted Aguirre’s resignation after criminal charges filed against  confessed drug lord Kerwin Espinosa and his alleged partner in the Visayan drug trade, Cebu-based businessman Peter Lim, were dismissed.

Duterte was reportedly furious over the dismissal and threatened to send Aguirre to jail if the charges against the two high-profile drug suspects were dismissed with finality./DGB, WDJ
