The First Regional Training-Workshop on Measuring and Mitigating Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (SLCPs) from the Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Sector workshop begins today, April 2, at the O Hotel in Bacolod City. The program runs until Wednesday, April 4.
Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Undersecretary for Environment and Field Operations Juan Miguel Cuna and National Solid Waste Management Commission Commissioner Crispin Lao will serve as keynote speakers, while Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia will welcome delegates.
“This is a chance, to learn on a first-hand basis, the latest trends in [caring for] the environment,” the mayor said.
According to Environmental Management Bureau-Solid Waste Management division senior environmental management specialist Maria Delia Cristina Valdez, a total of 35 participants, including delegates from Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and Japan, will be present for the workshop.
The workshop will discuss how to reduce SLCPs from MSW with a focus on policy, technology, and financial aspects.
Meanwhile, the DENR is requesting the Bacolod City government to deliver a presentation on the role of local government units in implementing national policies on solid waste management./WDJ
