With impending closure scheduled by the end of the month, the Malay municipal government recently revealed they are not keen on providing permits for “LaBoracay” events.
“In line with the ongoing rehabilitation of Boracay Island, no special permits for big events will be issued for the duration of LaBoracay,” the town government said in a statement.
“LaBoracay” is scheduled to run from last week of April into May, which marks International Labor Day. It is celebrated by a series of parties, some of which are sponsored by multinational corporations.
However, events may be put on hold after the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of the Interior and Local Government, and Department of Tourism (DOT) proposed closure of the resort destination on April 26.
Officials of the three agencies earlier said that the April 26 scheduled closure was made precisely because of the LaBoracay events, which is generally seen as a trash-generating event.
Environmentalists claimed more than 10,000 kilograms of trash were generated by more than 60,000 visitors during LaBoracay./WDJ
