A Negrense overseas Filipino worker (OFW), who went viral on social media earlier this month following alleged mistreatment by her employer in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, recently returned home to Bago City, Negros Occidental.
The OFW, identified as Edrelyn Cauntoy, arrived at Bredco Port last Saturday afternoon and immediately recounted her experience in a radio interview, noting fears she would not make it back due the “hard conditions” provided by her Saudi employer, who imprisoned her inside the stockroom for at least a week with limited food or water.
Cauntoy also said the items she was supposed to bring to her family were forcefully taken by her employer before she was rescued by personnel from the Philippine Embassy and other civic groups operating in Saudi Arabia.
Cauntoy said she was forced to work abroad in order to provide a better life for her family, as well as fund the education for her two siblings.
The Bago City native said she plans to find a new job./DGB, WDJ
