An estimated 5,000 police officers have been deployed across Region VI, in order to maintain peace and order for the Holy Week observance.

Police Regional Office (PRO-6) director, Police Chief Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne Binag, said all personnel will be on heightened alert at major populated areas, including churches, pilgrimage sites, bus terminals, airports, and seaports.

Binag also mentioned, they are beefing up security in Boracay.

Thousands of tourists are expected to arrive at the popular resort destination before the national government implements a closure order, scheduled for April 26.

Last Wednesday, the PRO-6 chief led inspections of key transportation terminals in Iloilo City.

Meanwhile, PRO-6 spokesperson, Police Superintendent Gilbert Gorero, offered safety tips to ensure the protection of property, including having at least one member stay home and travelers should avoid wearing flashy jewelry and should not carry too much cash./WDJ
