The annual Earth Hour observance, an event created by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), where communities were urged to switch off non-essential lights from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., returned to SM City Bacolod over the weekend.

“The goal is to reduce our carbon footprint,” said SM City Bacolod Assistant Mall Manager Julia Javellana. “I’m sure all of us are doing our part.”

According to Earth Hour Negros core group leader, Engr. Ratty Calvo, this year’s theme, #Connect2Earth, helps in strengthening the link with Earth, as it is “the only place we call home.”

Among other activities conducted as part of the event included a coastal clean-up drive, an Earth Hour walk, a film screening, a lecture, the ceremonial switch off of lights, and a pledge of commitment./WDJ
