The proposed rate increase by the Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) will most likely be approved by the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA).
“The probability is almost 100 percent,” noted LWUA Administrator Jeci Lapus while in Iloilo City recently.
MIWD is proposing a new rate of P200 per every 10 cubic meters, from the current rate of P159, resulting in an increase of P41 per every 10 cubic meters if LWUA approves the new petition.
Lapus explained, LWUA will be looking at the impact of oil and power rates as well as implemented salary hikes.
MIWD management previously explained salary hikes left the firm with negative annual earnings, resulting in budget unable to improve facilities, equipment, or services.
Lapus added, MIWD’s situation is similar to many public water utilities in the country./WDJ
