The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is tentatively scheduled to file an administrative case against local officials over the ongoing mess at tourist destination of Boracay.

DILG Assistant Secretary Epimaco Densing III said serious neglect of duty charges will be filed against local officials, including Aklan Governor Florencio Miraflores, Malay Mayor Ciceron Cawaling, the Malay Municipal Council, and the three barangay captains based in Boracay.

Densing said formal charges will be filed next week, when Filipinos mark the end of this year’s Lenten season.

President Rodrigo Duterte previously blamed local officials for their inaction that made Boracay into a “cesspool.”

He also said local officials would be formally charged.

Meanwhile, the DILG is also studying the possibility of including former elected officials in the case to be filed before the Office of the Ombudsman./WDJ
