The Iloilo City Public Safety and Management Office (PSTMO) recently declared Valeria, Quezon, Mabini, Delgado, and Jalandoni streets cleared as part of their strengthened clearing operations of illegally-parked vehicles, obstructions, and illegal structures.
“We conducted this operation because our roads are not for private individuals or business establishments but for the use of public,” PSTMO head Jeck Conlu stressed.
“We are reminding business establishments and vehicle owners to please be guided [by] our ordinances on illegal parking and obstruction,” Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III added. “We are doing this to make our roads accessible to everyone so that, in case of emergency and rush hour, there will be easy passage.”
Violators of Regulation Ordinance 2012-329, which prohibits and penalizes the installation of “reserved parking for customers only” signage along any public roads, duly-established parking spaces for public use, and open space provided by private establishments, are fined P1,000 on their first offense. Fines increase to P2,000 on the second offense and P5,000 on the third, along with the possibility of imprisonment./WDJ
