A barangay kagawad allegedly stabbed and wounded another kagawad during a heated argument at Crossing Malanog in Barangay Tigbon, Calatrava, Negros Occidental, Wednesday evening.

Police identified the victim as 38-year-old Gonzalo Rayna, a resident of Barangay Malanog in the said municipality.

According to Calatrava town police, Rayna and the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Warren Cabag, were involved in a misunderstanding. The incident escalated into a fistfight, which ended with Cabag allegedly drawing his bladed weapon and stabbing Rayna in the chest.

The victim was immediately rushed to the town’s district hospital and later transferred to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) for further treatment.

Cabag, meanwhile, fled the crime scene, but was later arrested after police conducted a follow-up operation.

The suspect may face attempted homicide charges and is presently detained at the Calatrava Municipal Police Station./DGB, WDJ
