The Bacolod City government recently launched their search for the cleanest and greenest barangays with the most well-managed solid waste management program.
“When the city is clean, when the city is beautiful, we can attract investors,” said Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia during the program launch at the Bacolod Public Plaza.
The program opened with a motorcade and included the signing of a pledge of commitment by various officials.
Twenty seven of the city’s 61 barangays have agreed to participate in the event.
Following the launch, Bacolod City Councilor Cindy Rojas, who chairs the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Environment and Ecology, led the distribution of trash receptacles for each Bacolod City barangay.
The top prize for rural barangays is P350,000 worth of projects, while the top urban barangay will receive P300,000 worth of projects.
Consolation prizes will also be awarded.
Judging will take place in June, September, and November; with an awarding ceremony scheduled for November, as a part of Environment Awareness Month./WDJ
