The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is laying the ground work to handle the would-be displace workers of Boracay Island.
“We are prepared to assist when the need arises,” said DOLE-6 Regional Director Johnson Cañete.
DOLE-6 and Department of Tourism (DOT-6) can help find emergency employment for any of the estimated 17,000 workers in Boracay.
DOLE-6 will also conduct two job fairs in the next three months in anticipation of workers who may likely lose their jobs if the government’s environmental crackdown goes full blast in the country’s most popular beach destination. This will be in coordination with the local governments of Malay town and Aklan province.
DOLE-6 will also partner with the Technical Educations and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for skills upgrading and retooling.
Meanwhile, a quick response team will also to be deployed to Boracay Island for profiling of the would-be-displaced workers./WDJ
