The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) is scheduled to go on ‘red alert’ status starting on Palm Sunday, March 25, ahead of this year’s Holy Week observance.

NOPPO director, Police Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Castil, Jr., said the police stations in the province were ordered to intensify police visibility and patrol operations.

Station commanders were also instructed to establish police assistance desks and deploy personnel to bus terminals, ports, malls, churches, and other areas of convergence.

In addition, Castil did not discount the possibility of thieves taking advantage of homeowners being away on vacation and ordered law enforcement to conduct mobile patrols at subdivisions and villages in their areas.

“The police would also like to remind the public to be vigilant, even when celebrating this significant event in the Christian community for we all need to be safe at all times,” Castil stated.

He added, lawless elements are waiting for an opportunity to strike and appealed for everyone to take necessary precautions in order to avoid becoming a victim of a crime./DGB, WDJ
