The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is scheduled to visit and inspect various beach resorts across Negros Occidental as part of ongoing preparations for Holy Week, which runs from March 25 to March 31.
PCG-Bacolod station commander, Lieutenant Senior Grade Jimmy Oliver Vingno, said he has instructed their sub-stations to coordinate with resort owners and ensure lifeguards are on duty at all times to prevent drowning incidents.
PCG personnel assigned to the sub-stations were also ordered to conduct foot patrols along beaches.
They will also be handing out leaflets offering safety tips to vacationers.
Aside from beach resorts, Vingno also said ports in Bacolod City, Cadiz City, Escalante City, San Carlos City, and Pulupandan will go on ‘red alert’ status starting Palm Sunday, March 25, in order to facilitate and secure passengers crossing to neighboring Cebu, Iloilo, and Guimaras.
Around 100 regular and auxiliary PCG personnel will be deployed to ports across the province.
Vingno also advised travelers not to carry excess baggage or contraband.
He also suggested booking tickets early to avoid any inconvenience./DGB, WDJ
