The local Kilusang Pagbabago (KP) chapter yesterday denied the three reported organizers earlier captured by New People’s Army (NPA) in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental were members of their organization.
KP-Negros provincial head and former Bacolod City Councilor, Atty. Archie Baribar, said the supposed KP personalities, led by a certain Jessa Que, collected P240 from poor farmers in exchange for KP membership, cash assistance of P10,000, and other projects.
Baribar said Que’s group has been conducting extortion activities for over a year under the guise of public service.
He said KP-Negros emphasizes volunteerism and has consistently stood by its policy of no collection from members.
KP-Negros also denied allegations by the rebel group claiming they are connected with certain vigilante groups and crime syndicates in Guihulngan City.
In response, Baribar called on law enforcement agencies to stop the extortion activities committed by individuals claiming to be members of KP.
He added, constituents should remain vigilant and avoid any association with groups using the name of KP for a fee./DGB, WDJ
