The website for the Iloilo City Treasurer’s Office was hacked Friday morning.
This was confirmed by Francis T. Cruz, chief of the Information Technology Department of the Iloilo City Hall.
A group called Iloilo Blackhats took credit for the hacking, which Cruz said wants to be known for its mischievous act.
It said: “Dear Iloilo City Government, we are pleased to release all of your taxpayer’s information. Ironically, this where the taxes of the Ilonggos go. Security is just an illusion. Yours truly, Toto_Hacker.”
While the website was shutdown, it appeared that the hacker was able to get the information of an estimated 100 taxpayers.
But Cruz said these are only minor details such as telephone numbers and address. He assured that it’s not alarming and the incident is “minor.”
Meanwhile, the city government has coordinated with the telecommunications company and will try to put measures that it won’t happen again./WDJ
