Kakampi Mo Ang Batas

“…For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love…” –2 Peter 1:5-8

Chief Justice Reynato Puno, isn’t it true that politicians and their relatives who regularly run (and win) are elected by the Filipino electorate? Isn’t it a fact that Filipino voters themselves are the ones electing families, who then form political dynasties?

If the public are the ones installing candidates who are related to one another, isn’t that democracy in action?

Perhaps, if out countrymen were taught by erudite and learned leaders, like you, Chief Justice Puno, they would be more circumspect in choosing who they support.

Perhaps, if Filipino voters were taught how to have fear, obedience, and love for God by Christian leaders, like you, Chief Justice Puno, they would not be selling their votes; maybe, they would no longer be voting for candidates who are known to be corrupt and selfish.

The real problems is our leaders failed to do good for our people and failed to teach good values among our countrymen.

Divorce is not the answer

The problem in the country today is our leaders, particularly those who have been elected into office despite not being blessed with the capacity to formulate solutions to the many ills confronting the nation.

To our beloved lawmakers:  divorce is not the answer for problems who find themselves at odds. They must be taught the commandments of God, which mandates love for one’s spouse and offspring, family, and fellow human beings.

If only Filipinos possessed love for God and their neighbors, we would have no need for divorce.

The problem is almost everyone nowadays has become ignorant of the commandments, including those in power; in particular, with those in sensitive and top-ranking government positions, the situation allows for the entry of evil thoughts – indeed, many are under control of the devil, which was prophesied in the Bible.

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre III, none of your prosecutors will be able to discharge their duties as long as you are airing your doubts about their work to the media. Before publicizing your directive to the National Bureau of Investigation ordering an investigation into prosecutors who dismissed cases against known drug lords, you should have allowed the justice within your department come to completion.

What happens if the decision by the panel of prosecutors is found to be in accordance with the law? Meanwhile, their reputations and characters have already been tarnished. If I were one of your fiscals (and I am glad I am now), I wouldn’t be doing anything anymore lest I become the subject of accusations.

My brother, Atty. Leny Mauricio, reacted to the situation: “I have been hearing some wild rumors about this. According to one of my neighbors, whose name is Tiagong Taga (roughly translated, James the bolo-wielder), the prosecutors would not dare dismiss the case if there was no assurance that something would happen to them. So the question is: Who gave that assurance to them?”

Was there such an assurance? Who might have given it, Prosecutor General Jorge Catalan?
