During a recent visit with Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III at City Hall, Port of Iloilo district collector John M. Simon said he would like to see the facility with the capabilities to accommodate for international container cargo.
“If [traders] want to bring in international container rice [cargo] from other countries, they course it through other cities in the country,” he explained. “We have to change that.”
“We are going to make sure that Iloilo traders have the best advantage, meaning, they will have more competitiveness and less cost in the transaction,” Simon explained.
Espinosa noted, “If foreign countries will dock here, it can contribute a lot to our economy.”
He noted, goods could come into the city from South Korea, China, and Southeast Asian countries./WDJ
