The National Housing Authority (NHA) is again under fire for the sub-standard housing project for “Yolanda” survivors in Concepcion, Iloilo province.

Several residents of the NHA housing site in Brgy. Bacjawan Sur have been complaining since last year because of the very bad workmanship of Hercor Construction Corp., the contractor hired by the NHA.

Residents have sought the help of both Mayor Milliard Villanueva and the Concepcion Sangguniang Bayan, but the problems still persist.

It includes the incomplete bathrooms, poor roofs that are leaky when it rains, flimsy wall partitions, cracked concrete roads, and incomplete doors and windows.

The residents also claimed they were the ones who had to install potable water system because Hercor did not install the water system. While they installed the water pipes themselves, it was later discovered that it was just meters away from the sewage system that may pose health problems.

A concerned citizen has tried to report it to the 888 hotline in Malacañang, but NHA still has not done anything.

NHA Regional Manager Luz Ysatam said it will only call the contractor and the complainants for a dialogue, but majority of residents are fed up of the repetitive lip service of the NHA./WDJ
