Amid recent reports revealing the provinces of Iloilo and Antique intensifying efforts to combat rabies, particularly with the ongoing observance of Rabies Awareness Month, which runs throughout March, Roxas City veterinarian, Dr. Dante Corros, said the city’s ongoing mass rabies vaccination program, which began on January 3, will run until May 31.

According to the city official, vaccinations take place every day.

Last week, the Department of Health-Region VI (DOH-6) reported a total 14 rabies deaths in the region last year, which nearly doubled the amount recorded in the previous year.

In 2016, there were a total nine human deaths attributed to rabies reported.

Last month, DOH Information Officer Joeffry Espiritu announced all government hospitals throughout Capiz are currently equipped with rabies vaccinations.

He noted, the government provides vaccinations free of charge for those bitten by rabid animals./PLL, WDJ
