Barangay Captain Sumakwel Nava of Libertad, Lapuz in Iloilo City is facing three different criminal complaints for physically attacking a newspaper columnist.

Herbert L. Vego of Panay News filed yesterday afternoon against the 77-year-old barangay chief known as “Mac Nava” for slight physical injury.

The 68-year-old Vego was having coffee at Hotel Del Rio yesterday morning when Nava approached him and punched him on the right side of the face then punched him on the left side of the face.

Vego said he personally has no problem with Nava, whom he said is his kumpare.

The incident stemmed from the disagreements between Vego and Nava’s son, Iloilo City Councilor Plaridel Nava, over Facebook.

The younger Nava accused Vego of being a paid hack of Iloilo City Congressman Jerry Treñas after Vego wrote a column in Panay News last Monday about Treñas’ plan to run as mayor for the 2019 elections.

In a Facebook post prior to the the incident, Councilor Nava threatened to attack Treñas as well as Iloilo media personalities he pinpointed is being paid by Treñas./WDJ
