The Negros Occidental Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-PENRO) released several rescued animals back into the wild over the weekend as part of World Wildlife Day, which was observed on Saturday, March 3.
“We have various activities lined up for the World Wildlife Day to remind the Filipino people of their role in protecting and conserving the treasures of our natural resources,” said DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu.
The animals were released in Talisay City, which included 11 snakes, two owls, and two varieties of lizard.
World Wildlife Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2013 as a day to celebrate and raise awareness of plants and animals.
According to the event’s official website, “World Wildlife Day has now become the most important global annual event dedicated to wildlife.”/PLL, WDJ
