Local anti-graft and corruption group watchdog Task Force Kasanag (TFK) held a forum last month in Manila dedicated to upholding press freedom and supporting campaigns against “fake news.”

TFK national commander John Chiong delivered a pledge of support for media outlets in the country.

“TFK and I personally have been supporting the media,” he said. “We, in the civil society group, believe that the media is our partner in bringing help to the indigents, and in exposing and fighting corruption and criminalities.”

Chiong noted, part of their working relationship includes upholding freedom of the press and to ensure consumers do not fall victim to “fake news.”

Present at the event were Philippine Press Institute (PPI) Executive Director Ariel Sebellino, TFK Administration and Operations Officer Junjun Villaera, Deputy National Commander Rod Malig, TFK directors and regional commanders, and media personalities from Manila.

Veteran journalist Inday Espina-Varona also attended the event and spoke before those gathered, where she thanked TFK for their efforts.

TFK, meanwhile, is finalizing their schedule for similar events to be held across the country./DGB, WDJ
