The cousin of a Negrense overseas Filipino worker (OFW), who is currently in Kuwait, was interviewed yesterday morning, where they claimed their family member working abroad is being held against their will.
According to Lilibeth Hizon, a resident of Barangay Cabug in Bacolod City, she told Bombo Radyo-Bacolod her cousin, 42-year-old Charry Cervantes of Barangay Binagyuhan in Escalante City, began working as a cleaner in Kuwait last December. However, shortly after, Cervantes began complaining about the heavy workload.
Hizon said her cousin has already complained to her agency about the working condition, wherein she was promised a lighter workload.
The cousin later reported conditions had not changed and, in addition, she was allegedly being verbally abused by her employer.
Hizon noted, the last contact she had with her cousin was last Saturday, where Cervantes said she was not being fed by her employers.
Earlier this month, another Negrense OFW, Josie Perez Lloren of Murcia, Negros Occidental, died shortly after returning from working in Kuwait. Her family believes the death was caused by abuse inflicted by her Kuwaiti employers./DGB, WDJ
