In contrast to earlier statements made by Sipalay City Tourism Officer Riha Cabajosa, who said they are expecting an upsurge in tourists amid the ongoing pollution situation at resort destination Boracay, Provincial Tourism Office head Christine Mansinares refuted the claims noting differences between the two locales.
“Boracay is known for its partying environment, Sipalay, on the other hand, is attractive to tourists who like serenity and a relaxing environment,” she explained.
Mansinares added, the Negrense city is also known for its diving sites and fresh seafood.
The provincial official said, while Sipalay City has been called the “Boracay of Negros,” it has its own separate tourism market.
Meanwhile, Mansinares noted an uptick in tourist visits to the Negrense city, but credited to last year’s opening of Sipalay Airport, which offers routes to Cebu.
She added, local tourists are also contributing to the increase in visits./DGB, WDJ
