Officers of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) and the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU) each received two body cameras during a ceremony yesterday.
Police Regional Office-6 (PRO-6) director, Police Chief Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne Binag, who led the ceremony, pointed out the new equipment would enable transparency whenever cops initiate an anti-drug operation, along with raising awareness for operatives to be mindful of operational procedures and rules of engagement.
He added, the equipment was included in the Philippine National Police (PNP) budget.
Binag hopes similar equipment will be made available to municipal police stations in the future.
Earlier this month, BCPO director, Police Senior Superintendent Francisco Ebreo, requested body cameras, which would assist in positively identifying suspects conducting illegal activities.
Aside from body cameras, the BCPO also received 10 new motorcycles, which would be distributed to the 10 police stations in the city; and eight Tavor bullpup 9mm submachine guns for the BCPO Special Weapons and Tactics unit./DGB, WDJ
