Filipino boxer Donnie ‘Ahas’ Nietes knocked out Argentinian fighter Juan Carlos Reveco yesterday to defend his International Boxing Federation (IBF) world flyweight title during a fight yesterday at The Forum, in California.
Referee Edward Hernandez, Sr. stopped the fight in the seventh round after Reveco refused to move forward.
“I’m so happy that I successfully defended my title,” the champion said in a phone interview. “We prepared well for this fight and it was all worth it.”
In addition, Nietes noted, he received word that former World Boxing Council world super flyweight champion Roman ‘Chocalatito’ Gonzalez of Nicaragua wanted to challenge him.
Meanwhile, Negros Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson also reacted to the fight, saying, “His victory is a cause to rejoice not only for Negrenses, but also to the Filipino people.”/JSG, WDJ
