Following the close of the 2018 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) meet in Iloilo City, Iloilo and Negros Occidental came out as overall champions, with the former winning the secondary level and the latter taking the elementary level.
Iloilo collected a total 101 gold, 70 silver, and 59 bronze medals in the secondary level; while Negros Occidental earned a total 64 gold, 55 silver, and 38 bronze medals in the elementary level.
For Department of Education Division of Negros Occidental Sports Coordinator Romeo Sison, he lamented on the province’s performance in swimming, where Iloilo nearly swept all of the gold medals.
“This is something that we will discuss,” he said. “We need to find ways to take back the control of swimming.”
Winners of the WVRAA meet will represent the region in the Palarong Pambansa this summer in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur./JSG, WDJ
