A resolution urging the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO), the City Engineer’s Office, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and concerned barangay officials to have lights erected near dimly-lit crosswalks passed the Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) yesterday during their regular session.
The measure, authored by City Councilor Caesar Distrito, cited the case of 69-year-old Salvacion Alejano, who was recently killed after being struck by a motorcycle while crossing Murcia Road in Barangay Mansilingan.
He noted, the installation of lighting fixtures will “give comfort and convenience” to drivers and “prevent vehicular accidents.”
Earlier this month, the Bacolod City government installed three fluorescent lamps on the raised crosswalk along Lacson Street in Bacolod City’s Barangay Mandalagan in response to reports of an attempted rape that took place along the pathway./PLL, WDJ
