Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) director, Police Senior Superintendent Francisco Ebreo, yesterday endorsed HB No. 7110, which is currently before the House of Representatives and seeks to impose a nationwide curfew for minors.

According to Ebreo, ratifying the curfew into law would make it easier for police.

He noted, the present city ordinance would still be necessary, citing the provisions specifically tailored for Bacolod City.

Ebreo also agreed with a statement by Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa on implementing the nationwide curfew, stating minors are far harder to discipline today.

The BCPO chief added, today’s minors, instead of going to school, they hang out in computer shops and are more often involved in criminal activity.

Earlier, Bagong Henerasyon partylist Rep. Bernedette Herrera-Dy proposed a bill seeking a 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. curfew that would keep youngsters under the age of 18 off the streets.

Under the proposed measure, fines and community service will be imposed on violators, along with penalties for their parents.

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary for barangay affairs Martin Diño, meanwhile, said the proposed law should be implemented, adding minors today are “dangerously playing with the law.”/DGB, WDJ
