Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor, Sr. is scheduled to turnover P100,000 today, February 20, to cover for burial expenses for slain overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Joanna Daniela Demafelis, who was found dead inside a freezer while working abroad in Kuwait.

Provincial government employees also offered a moment of silence during yesterday’s flag-raising ceremony.

The primary suspects in the case are her employers, a Lebanese man and his Syrian wife, who have since fled the country.

According to reports, it was found Demafelis suffered from broken ribs and internal bleeding.

Demafelis is one of several OFWs experiencing alleged cases of maltreatment by employers in Kuwait. The government has since banned the deployment of workers to the Middle East country, with workers being repatriated back to the Philippines beginning earlier this month./JAN, WDJ
