With the remains of slain overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Joanna Daniela Demafelis back in her hometown of Sara, Iloilo over the weekend, it was recently revealed the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) are conducting an investigation into her suspected murder.
Demafelis’ body was found inside a freezer earlier this month after she had gone missing while working overseas. Her death was the latest in a string of OFWs killed in Kuwait, prompting the national government to ban workers from traveling to the Middle East nation and repatriating hundreds back to the Philippines.
“There will be criminal charges, definitely, under Kuwaiti law,” said Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) administrator Hans Leo Cacdac.
The primary suspects in the case are her employers, a Lebanese man and his Syrian wife, who have since fled the country.
According to reports, it was found Demafelis suffered from broken ribs and internal bleeding./PLL, WDJ
