Possible typhoon amid competition –Antique PDRRMO

By Paulo Loreto Lim

With Tropical Depression Basyang recently exiting the region, which has since been downgraded to a low pressure area, Broderick Train of the Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) recently warned of a possible typhoon ahead of this year’s National State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) meet, which the province is hosting from Sunday, February 18, until February 24.

When the storm struck Panay earlier this week, elementary and high school classes were suspended in Hamtic, which is expected to serve as a venue for some of the SCUAA sporting events.

Accommodations for athletes and other sporting venues for the event are located in Sibalom and San Jose de Buenavista; while additional lodging facilities are also available in Belison.

According to Antique Provincial Tourism Officer Jose Ramlo Villaluna, 6,000 to 8,000 athletes are expected to participate in the games./PLL, WDH
