Negros Occidental third district Rep. Alfredo Benitez held a consultation and dialogue in Talisay City last Monday regarding the Malogo River Irrigation Project, a development by the National Irrigation Administration.

Speculators say the project will benefit 8,625 hectares of irrigable area in both Silay City and EB Magalona with a diversion dam to be built in the city’s Barangay Kapitan Ramon.

The congressman said the project will boost agricultural productivity, mitigate flooding, provide a source of potable water, act as a power component, and develop eco-tourism.

Back in October 2016, Benitez conducted a scoping session on the said project at the Natalio Velez Sports and Cultural Center in Silay City.

The project was first conceptualized and proposed in 2014./WDJ
