In a recent interview with Fox Soccer Asia, Ceres-Negros FC midfielder Stephan Schröck said, ahead of next week’s clash with Cambodian League champions Boeung Ket Angkor FC, he would like to see the club take home the continental trophy.
“I want to go all the way,” he said. “I’m quite sure that my ambitions match that of my team-mates and the club management.”
As the defending AFC Cup ASEAN Zonal champions, the Negrense club recently made history, advancing to the 2018 AFC Champions League play-off round, but missing out on the group stage after losing 2-0 to Chinese Super League club Tianjin Quanjian FC.
The midfielder also addressed the loss, noting, “We are all disappointed that we couldn’t make it into the Champions League group stage.”
“Nevertheless, I feel this Ceres team is the team to rewrite the story of football in the Philippines,” he added.
Aside from the Cambodian club, Ceres is also drawn in Group G with Singapore’s Home United FC, whom Ceres defeated to win the zonal championship last year; along with Myanmar National League champions Shan United, whom they beat in the Champions League qualifying play-offs last month./PLL, WDJ
