Bago City boxers secure quarterfinal berths

Bago City boxers Kim Catedrilla, Rodel Gamo, Joshua Belicena, and Nel Tambanillo each earned a berth in the quarterfinals of the PSC-Pacquiao Amateur Boxing Cup, scheduled to take place from February 24 to 25 in Naga City, Cebu.

It was originally reported, the quarterfinals were scheduled to take place in Bago City from February 17 to 18; however, preliminary rounds took place in Bago City at the Manuel Y. Torres Memorial Coliseum and Cultural Center last weekend.

After Gamo, Belicena, and Catedrilla won their respective bouts on the first day of the preliminaries, Tambanillo also advanced after beating Jovan Molleno after the referee stopped the fight in the second round.

Among other Negrense qualifiers include Nixon Anito and Jay Torela, Jr. of Sipalay City; Michael Adolfo and Mark Alob of Cadiz City; Geniel Alit and Herlan Gomez of Victorias City; Kane Paul Redondo of Don Salvador Benedico; Kent Perocho of Escalante City; Joenel Francisco of Murcia; and Renz Lee Teves of Bayawan City.

Meanwhile, Cebu City bets Angelo Bulasa, John Paul Gabunelas, Johnro Taneo, and Limbert Cainap also ruled their respective divisions.

Fighters who advance to the semifinals will compete on March 10 in Antique, a specific location has yet to be named; and the regional championships scheduled for March 31 in Maasin City, Leyte./JSG, WDJ
