Bago City boxers win in preliminaries

Boxers from Bago City took three wins in the PSC-Pacquiao Amateur Boxing Cup preliminary rounds over the weekend before a home crowd at the Manuel Y. Torres Memorial Coliseum and Cultural Center.

It was earlier reported, Ormoc City, Leyte would host the preliminary rounds from February 3 to 4, with those advancing to the quarterfinals competing in Bago City from February 17 to 18.

Rodel Gamo defeated Alex Andrei Bonita via unanimous decision in the junior boys pinweight division, Joshua Belicena beat Julius Salbibia via unanimous decision in the junior boys flyweight division, and Kim Catedrilla won after his fight against Rey Penafiel was stopped in the first round in the junior boys pinweight division.

In other results, Nixon Anito of Sipalay City defeated Cres John Demafiles via split decision in the junior boys flyweight division; Jay Torela, Jr. of Sipalay City defeated Rojean Sabordo via split decision in the bantamweight division; Kane Paul Redondo, representing Negros Occidental, beat Simon Kay Canon in the first round in the junior boys pinweight division; Angelo Bulasa, Jr. of Cebu City defeated Jovelen Abrenica via unanimous decision in the junior boys pinweight division; Kent Perocho of Escalante City defeated Cresante Caballero via split decision in the junior boys pinweight division; Joenel Francisco of Murcia won after the referee stopped his fight against Perlito Escalamada, Jr. in the second round in the junior boys light flyweight division; and Gaudfrey Lubiano, representing Mandaue-Omega, defeated Jhayve Donaire via split decision in the junior boys light flyweight division./JSG, WDJ
