Thousands gathered yesterday in the Jaro district of Iloilo City as they celebrated the annual Jaro Fiesta, which honors the Nuestra Señora dela Candelaria.
Events began with a 4:00 a.m. mass, with another taking place at 7:00 a.m.
Devotees believe the image of the religious figure, earlier declared by Pope John Paul II as the patron saint for the Western Visayas, can grow in size due to miraculous powers.
In addition to the festivities, a multi-million cock derby contest was held at the Jaro Coliseum./WDJ
