With the ongoing activity at Mt. Mayon in Albay, Negros Occidental Provincial Executive Assistant Jon Aying yesterday met with Office of the Civil Defense-Region VI Director Roberto Nuñez to discuss plans for the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) in the event Mt. Kanlaon erupts.

“We already saw what is going on in Mayon, and I want to make sure it doesn’t happen here if Kanlaon erupts,” Nuñez said, noting Albay lacked available evacuation centers and relief supplies prior to the eruption.

He added, there is currently no “movement” recorded within Mt. Kanlaon, however, an ‘Alert Level 2’ is still declared over the volcano.

“We still continue to monitor until such time that the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology downgrades the status,” Nuñez explained./DGB, WDJ
