National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) chairman, Dr. Rene Escalante, recently paid a courtesy call on Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III, who called for more historical structures in the city.
“Representation of history is very important anywhere in the world,” he explained. “We should make ways to preserve our historical structures.”
The mayor suggested items including the Ma. Clara monument at the University of Iloilo, along with the construction of a Blood Compact statue along the Iloilo River and a mythical structure in the Fort San Pedro area.
Escalante, meanwhile, discussed the Museum of Economic History of the Philippines, which he reported to be 85 percent complete.
“We’ll be done by first quarter of the year,” he assured.
The museum is located at the site of the former Commission on Audit building./WDJ
