The Diocese of Bacolod yesterday called for donations amid the ongoing unrest of Mt. Mayon in Albay province.
Diocese Social Action Center (SAC) head, Rev. Fr. Chris Gonzales, said their office is accepting any items for donations, but would prefer cash donations.
Gonzales said displaced victims of the eruption are currently in need of food, toiletries, hygiene kits, medical supplies, diapers, and blankets.
However, Gonzales noted, clothes are no longer needed as a majority of evacuees had enough time to bring most of their belongings.
He added, donors can bring their items to their nearest parish church or to the SAC office at the Bishop’s House in Bacolod City.
Earlier this month, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) raised Mayon’s status to an Alert Level 4 after the volcano started spewing ash and lava.
It is estimated around 60,000 people were evacuated by authorities after Phivolcs extended a nine-kilometer danger zone around the radius of the volcano./DGB, WDJ
