BTTHS official concerned over outdoor volleyball facilities

Bacolod Tay Tung High School (BTTHS) Vice President for Sports Jose Montalbo recently penned a letter to Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Negros Occidental Sports Coordinator Romeo Sison expressing concern over the outdoor volleyball facilities for the upcoming 2018 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) meet in Iloilo.
“This is not appropriate because, for sure, it will affect the safety of our student-athletes,” he said.
“The ground outdoors is not conducive for playing volleyball because of its rough or very slippery surface,” the BTTHS official explained. “The lighting and ventilation outside are not regulated.”
“If you let them play outdoors, the chances of them being wounded or injured is higher. I’m sure you are aware that,” Montalbo added.
In the event of an injury, he questioned who would be held liable.
Former provincial sports coordinator Efren Timtiman voiced his support for Montalbo, pointing out the facilities at the Panaad Park and Stadium.
“Negros Occidental takes pride in being athlete-friendly,” he stated./JSG, WDJ
